Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 5: In an exhilarating match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced a tough defeat against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), who set an impressive target of 236 runs for the loss of five wickets. LSG managed to score 199 runs for seven wickets in their response.
Ayush Badoni was the highlight for LSG, delivering a remarkable performance with a score of 74 runs off just 40 balls, which included five fours and five sixes, keeping his team in contention during the chase.
In the post-match interview, Badoni reflected on the team's performance, stating, “We could have controlled the game better by limiting their score by 10-15 runs, but the target was achievable. The pitch was excellent for batting.”
Despite the loss, Badoni's innings provided a glimmer of hope for LSG as they aim to recover in the upcoming matches of the tournament.
During the match, LSG struggled initially, finding themselves at 73 for 5, but an impressive partnership of 81 runs between Badoni and Abdul Samad, who scored 45 runs off 24 balls, helped stabilize the innings. Ultimately, LSG fell short by 37 runs.
With this victory, PBKS secured the second position in the standings with seven wins, three losses, and one no result, accumulating 15 points. Meanwhile, LSG sits in seventh place with five wins and six losses, totaling 10 points.
LSG won the toss and chose to bat first. PBKS's innings featured a quick-fire 30 runs from Josh Inglis off 14 balls, alongside a solid 78-run partnership between Prabhsimran and captain Shreyas Iyer, who contributed 45 runs off 25 balls. Additionally, a 54-run partnership between Prabhsimran and Shashank Singh, who scored 33 not out off 15 balls, propelled PBKS to their total of 236 runs.
For LSG, Akash Singh and Digvesh Rathi were the leading wicket-takers, claiming two wickets each. In the chase, despite the early collapse, Badoni and Samad's partnership gave LSG a fighting chance, but they ultimately finished at 199 for 7 in their 20 overs.
Arshdeep Singh was exceptional for PBKS, taking three wickets for just 16 runs in his four overs, while Azmatullah Omarzai took two wickets for 33 runs. Marco Jansen and Yuzi Chahal each contributed with a wicket as well.
